DREAMING OF YOU

WarTapes - Dreaming of You from diceliving76 aka gareth on Vimeo.

It’s no surprise that even before War Tapes’ first release on Sep. 16th, the Internet music world is a-buzz about this band.
I ask for MORE more!!!
>> check out more songs @ myspace - I LOVE their song "Mind is Ugly" - enjoy!!!

They have toured with The Bravery, Smashing Pumpkins and most recently, Tiger Army. They've been described as "Interpol meets AFI with a dose of The Cure".

Neil Popkin(vocals, guitar)
Becca Popkin(bass, vocals)
William Mohler(drums)
Matt Bennett (guitar)

War Tapes, a Los Angeles 4-piece, successfully creates epic anthems of angst, blending the attitude and edge of today’s post-hard-core scene with an appealing nod to 80’s new-wave and post-punk. All the while, War Tapes demonstrates a knack for creating huge hooks and sing-a-long choruses.

"War Tapes 'Dreaming of You' - is MP3 of the day! War Tapes' newest single "Dreaming of You" is a mix between The Cure's knack for fantastic melodies and Depeche Mode's deep vocals."
- MyCrazyMusicBlog.com
"A band described by critics as a cross between Interpol, AFI and The Cure, War Tapes on their first effort did not disappoint the staggering comparison to the three massive names in music. In their debut EP, the band delivered atmospheric rock songs they like to coin “heart quaking doom pop”. And heart quaking it is."
-Im4Music.com
"Few things are scarier than wars and armies, so it makes sense that War Tapes and Tiger Army would put on a hell of a show."
-The Bostonist
"The kids in War Tapes make shimmering, textured rock that recalls the best of Echo & The Bunnymen, and their star is clearly on the rise."
-Rocky Mountain News
"War Tapes kicked off the night with a set of gothic-tinged ditties. Atmospheric like the Cure with a bit of an Interpol fetish, War Tapes oscillated between quick rockers and sexy slow jams. The crowd dug it either way, as applause was constant."
-PunkNews.Org

Throughout September, War Tapes will be touring California with Tiger Army.
Aug 28 Bordello's Los Angeles, CA w/ Sleepmask, Repeater, Veil Veil Vanish
Aug 30 Echoplex Los Angeles, CA F Yeah Fest, includes No Age, Matt & Kim, Two Gallants, etc.

Lets hope that this is NOT the end of muxtape or pandora

Muxtape

Muxtape will be unavailable for a brief period while we sort out a problem with the RIAA.

No artists or labels have complained. The site is not closed indefinitely. Stay tuned. Beta users of Muxtape For Bands: you are unaffected by this outage
. http://muxtape.tumblr.com/

What can We do as Music Listeners to help Muxtape and musicians???

http://gizmodo.com/5038754/muxtape-getting-eaten-by-riaa

AND then of course there have been the problems with Pandora
http://gizmodo.com/5038049/pandora-internet-radio-cant-take-royalty-rates-will-likely-close-the-box

Dear Pandora Visitor, We are deeply, deeply sorry to say that due to licensing constraints, we can no longer allow access to Pandora for listeners located outside of the U.S. We will continue to work diligently to realize the vision of a truly global Pandora, but for the time being we are required to restrict its use. We are very sad to have to do this, but there is no other alternative
http://www.pandora.com/restricted

its a sad state of affairs and i truely hope that my favourite all-time website Last.fm is not going to be affected by recent events.

Would it be a good idea to be stealing music in protest to the RIAA???

BBC Entertainment News Talking Shop: The Zutons

Liverpool band The Zutons recently released their third album and have embarked on a round of festival appearances and gigs. The Mercury and Brit-nominated five-piece, fronted by Dave McCabe, have had nine UK top 40 songs and achieved one of their biggest hits with Valerie in 2006. But when the song was covered by Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse, it went on to surpass The Zutons' success. Abi Harding, the band's saxophonist and backing singer, discusses her role in The Zutons, their biggest gig yet, and how they "lost" Valerie.

Do you feel that your song Valerie is no longer your own?
Dave wrote it and it's our song, but it has a life of its own now. People who know Amy Winehouse's version don't know that it's ours. Valerie's just a little band of its own now. But I still see it as our tune and it helped to keep us up there.
Is there someone else's song you would like to cover and have even more success than the original artist?
There are too many great tunes. I'd love to cover I Can't Stand The Rain by Ann Peebles but we'd need a hot producer as it's an old song. Somebody's Watching You by Sly and the Family Stone would be good as I see us a bit like them. We did it for Radio 2 and I thought it worked dead well.

The Top 20 Albums of All Time -- AND yes you will disagree -- i did

http://new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/yradish/15499/the-top-20-albums-of-all-time-for-real

The Top 20 Albums of All Time (For Real)
Posted Mon Jul 28, 2008 3:21pm PDT by Robert of the Radish in The Y! Music Playlist Blog
I completely understand the frustration of "best of lists", and I can assure you that I read hundreds of comments here on the Yahoo Music blogs whenever we post one. Many times our "best album" lists generate thousands of comments. And although many of the remarks are ridiculous, many are valid in a subjective sort of way.

For this playlist I wanted to find the true top 20 albums once and for all, but to do this I needed to clear my mind of all opinion and approach it as a science. My own personal taste did not influence this list in any way. In fact, I would have made many different choices, but the time I put into collecting the data and crunching the numbers leaves no doubt in my mind that this is the most accurate top 20 album list in existence.

The following mathematical formula was used:
"Album Staying Power Value + Sales Value + Critical Rating Value + Grammy Award Value"

Grammy Award Value ????

straight away i disagree with the way this list was created -- who really cares about the Grammies. No rock star band when they start off think that getting a Grammy is the greatest thing to achieve.
Check out how many Grammy's the Dark Side of the Moon won >> i rest my case.
(((not heard of radiohead?? - i may not be a huge fan but i certainly appreciate their work --- they regularly appear in the top TEN list of all time great albums)))

i guess new articles about ALL-Time lists are always going to provide debate.
so here's the so called list

#20. Faith - George Michael
#19. Appetite For Destruction - Guns N' Roses
#18. Purple Rain - Prince
#17. Houses Of The Holy - Led Zeppelin
#16. Born In The U.S.A. - Bruce Springsteen
#15. Nevermind - Nirvana
#14. Van Halen - Van Halen
#13. Rumours - Fleetwood Mac
#12. The Wall - Pink Floyd
#11. The Joshua Tree - U2
#10. Metallica - Metallica
#9. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin
#8. Hotel California - Eagles
#7. The White Album - The Beatles
#6. Led Zeppelin IV - Led Zeppelin
#5. Abbey Road - The Beatles
#4. Physical Graffiti - Led Zeppelin
#3. Thriller - Michael Jackson
#2. Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd
#1. Songs In The Key Of Life - Stevie Wonder

http://new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/yradish/15499/the-top-20-albums-of-all-time-for-real
so far 6724 Comments -- im guessing some people disagreed with the final list.

Bob Dylan at Newport Folk Festival 1965

The electric Dylan controversy was the incident at the Newport Folk Festival on Sunday July 25, 1965, where folk singer Bob Dylan "went electric", by playing with an electric blues band in concert for the first time. This seeming rejection of what had gone before made Dylan unpopular in parts of the folk community, alienating some fans, and is considered to have deeply affected both folk and rock 'n' roll.
The footage begins with Dylan being introduced by Master of Ceremonies Peter Yarrow: "Ladies and gentlemen, the person that's going to come up now has a limited amount of time ... His name is Bob Dylan." In the documentary footage, the sound of loud booing and sporadic cheering begins just a few bars into Dylan's first song, "Maggie's Farm", and continues throughout the second, Like A Rolling Stone and "Phantom Engineer".
After playing "Phantom Engineer", Dylan told the band, "Let's go, man. That's all", and walked off-stage. The sound of loud booing and clapping can be heard in the background. Peter Yarrow returned to the microphone and begged Dylan to continue performing. Apparently desperate to appease the audience, he assured them that Dylan was "just getting his axe" even before it was clear whether or not he was willing to return solo.

soundcheck + maggie's farm at newport folk festival 1965. short clip from murray lerners documentary "festival"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6I1JSyc8R0

I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.
No, I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.
Well, I wake in the morning,
Fold my hands and pray for rain.
I got a head full of ideas
That are drivin' me insane.
It's a shame the way she makes me scrub the floor.
I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.

I ain't gonna work for Maggie's brother no more.
No, I ain't gonna work for Maggie's brother no more.
Well, he hands you a nickel,
He hands you a dime,
He asks you with a grin
If you're havin' a good time,
Then he fines you every time you slam the door.
I ain't gonna work for Maggie's brother no more.

I ain't gonna work for Maggie's pa no more.
No, I ain't gonna work for Maggie's pa no more.
Well, he puts his cigar
Out in your face just for kicks.
His bedroom window
It is made out of bricks.
The National Guard stands around his door.
Ah, I ain't gonna work for Maggie's pa no more.

I ain't gonna work for Maggie's ma no more.
No, I ain't gonna work for Maggie's ma no more.
Well, she talks to all the servants
About man and God and law.
Everybody says
She's the brains behind pa.
She's sixty-eight, but she says she's twenty-four.
I ain't gonna work for Maggie's ma no more.

I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.
No, I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.
Well, I try my best
To be just like I am,
But everybody wants you
To be just like them.
They sing while you slave and I just get bored.
I ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more.
